Pot grown trees

Hundreds of trees in dozens of varieties are potted during the winter months all tied to support wires with their individual irrigation drippers. Head and root pruning is done at this stage to form a good head and fibrous root structure. The specially formulated tree compost has sterilised loam and grit added an includes wetting agents and slow-release fertilizer to promote strong healthy growth throughout the summer.

Nearly all the trees we grow are now sold pot grown (container grown). This means the planting season is extended to the whole year and trees can be planted in full leaf. There is minimal shock to the root system by this method though extra care must be taken when planting in the growing season with watering and careful staking. If there is a large project planned it is advisable to plant from October through to March when in the dormant period.

Pot sizes vary from a saucepan-sized 10 litre right up to 250-300 litres specimens. The majority of trees sold between 10 and 15 litre 6-8' tall - around £28-£35 and 8-10' tall 35-45 litre around £75-£120.
